The Selection

Summary:  America Singer has her whole life planned ahead.  She knows what she wants, and nothing is standing in her way, except for the few dollars she doesn’t have.  Then, one day, her future falls apart when an application for the Selection comes, and her mother forces her to fill it out.  America thinks there is no possible way she can be selected, and lo and behold, she is.  America goes to the palace with thirty-five other girls, to compete for Prince Maxon’s hand.  America doesn’t expect to fall in love with him- she expects to be eliminated at the first possible moment- but, then she meets Maxon, and wonders if everything she’s planned, is everything she really wants.
  Crown Princess Eadlyn of Ilea, does not want to be Crown Princess Eadlyn of Ilea.  It comes with such big responsibilities, paparazzi, and a Selection.  Eadlyn’s Selection is coming up, and even though her parent’s turned out so well, she does not want what they have.  She wants to prove she can be queen all on her own, even if the responsibilities cripple her.  
Sexual content:  America makes out a couple different times, and in The One, it says that America and Maxon slept together.  Eadlyn makes out with a couple guys, and one of them tries to rape her.  She ends up sleeping with a guy.
Gay character:  In The Crown, you find out that one of the guys is gay, and he is in an active relationship with another guy
Note:  There are two series in The Selection.  The first one is from America’s point of view, and it has three books- The Selection, The Elite, and The One.  The next series is from America’s daughter, Eadlyn’s, point of view.  Her books are The Heir, and The Crown.
Morals:  The government is going against America’s morals and beliefs throughout the series, and she never gives in to the peer pressure of giving up her beliefs.  She doesn’t just sit back, and follow them like a meek little girl who does whatever she is told.  She- along with Maxon- go out and try to fix things for the country, and never gives up.
