Summary: A boy is trying to deal with his mother dying of cancer, when a monster comes. This monster has told Connor, that he will come three nights, and on those three nights he will tell a story. On the fourth night he comes, he says Connor has tell him a story.
Language: The 'd' word is said once
Violence and gore: About two thirds into the book Connor starts beating up a kid. Connor has been bullied by this kid, and he is sick and tired of it, so he fights back. The thing is, he actually thinks it's the monster who is beating him up. Connor ends up landing the kid in the hospital.
The truth: You are probably curious on what exactly this means, and what it means is that the monster asks Connor what the truth is for him. Truth is a dominant theme in this book, and the monster keeps asking Connor what exactly the truth is for him. The book promotes that there is more than one truth, and none of them have to do with God.
Morals: This book challenges you to think about the truth, and what exactly it is (I will warn, you have to actually know the truth of Jesus Christ before you read this book). It also examines the realtionship between child and parent, and it addresses bullying. It also has a huge lean towards grief, and dealing with it.
Family, 13-14 years old, contemporary
